Civilization?
Sometimes I think that America is the most backward, idiotic civilization in the world. The average U.S. citizen knows more about Paris Hilton than they do about most political issues. Then I hear news from places like Kenya and I realize that America is civilized after all. In fact, America may very well provide the definition of ‘civilized’ peoples in that we (somewhat vaguely) respect our own governmental system. When we have an election, regardless of the results, we accept the outcome within reason. Not so in Kenya. The system is so tenuous there, that it almost a given that whatever party looses the election will immediately claim that the whole thing was rigged and start rioting in the street because they didn’t get their way.
What’s the point of having an election if you won’t stand by the results? Why not just continue warring and have a nice coup.
