“Silly” people.
We try really hard to set a good example for our daughter. And that means we have to watch our language. It’s not just that we don’t want her exposed to vulgarities (I’m sure she’ll hear enough of those at school soon), but rather that we don’t want her to start using defamatory language at all. That includes the “s” word. No, not that “s” word… the other one. You know. S… T… U… P… I… D. We use “silly” if we have to describe someone who fits the description. Of course, she’s learning to read and spell, so the standard parental cryptography isn’t going to work for much longer.
So a while back there was this story about a woman who got pulled over for speeding while taking her (already late) son to school. To make a long story short, she told the officer she didn’t have time and sped off with the cop’s ticket book in her car, was stopped again, refused to get out of the car, threw out the ticket book, sped off a second time leading them on a 15 minute chase to her son’s school… Where (luckily) she was promptly arrested.
Okay, can you imagine this woman’s son as he was escorted to class? What must he be thinking about his mom at that moment as he watches her handcuffed and driven away in a police car? “Gee, mom. Next time get me up ten minutes sooner…” Nah. Probably more like, “what an idiot.” Or at least we can hope that’s what he’s thinking.
So today, there was a follow-up article about her sentencing. It turns out this bithead is a lawyer.
But the truly amazing thing is what the defense is trying to say about her.
“You have before you what is truly a wonderful human being,” Kerry Steigerwalt of the defense said pointing out Taylor’s achievements in education, law and various charitable endeavors. Are you kidding me! Wonderful how?! She endangers the lives of herself, her child, and countless other drivers on the road, thumbs her nose at the law, never admits to any wrongdoing, and then has the gall to claim that she has suffered both personally and professionally since the incident. Yeah, I’ll bet she has. Who the hell would want to get within ten miles of her, let alone use her services as a lawyer.
And to top it off, she gets a paltry four year’ probation and a slap-on-the-wrist $2,500 fine. She will also have to do 60 days of public works service and undergo counseling with a licensed mental health professional, who we hope will find her as incompetent a human being as everyone else does and recommend that she be restricted to taking the freaking bus to work from now on. In case you think I’m being harsh, remember that this is a woman who could very well have been endangering YOUR child on their way to school. The fact that no one was hurt (physically. anyway) is a gift of fate. And yes, she plans to appeal.
Silly, silly woman.
