Blue Skies

So, I’ve been checking the weather forecast on my computer pretty much twice a day for a couple of weeks now. It’s been miserably hot lately, and I was watching for a cooling trend.

My computer shows me three days worth of advanced forecasts based on several different weather services, and is updated every fifteen minutes.

Last night before I went to bed, and for the last two weeks, the basic forecast for the coming three days has been, partly cloudy, hot or sunny, with high humidity. There’s been slight insignificant changes that really only boil down to the amount that your clothes stick to your skin, but otherwise, no mention of rain.

So this morning I wake up and LO AND BEHOLD, my computer is telling me that we will have THUNDERSTORMS TODAY, and all the way through TUESDAY! To further confound me, I can look out my window and THERE’S NOT A CLOUD IN SIGHT. It’s just blue skies. There’s hardly even any smog!

Now, I know that weather prediction is a complicated and ever changing art, but what the hell is the point if they can’t see it coming? I mean, if sticking my head out the window to see if it comes back in wet is just as good (or better) an indicator of the coming weather, then what in the world am I paying a part of my taxes for? Instead of all those expensive automated weather stations and doppler radar setups, why don’t they go out and find some old lady who’s arthritis acts up when it’s going to rain. She CAN’T be any worse than the San Diego soothsayers…

Bah!
